Ben Gittleson is a desk assistant on ABC News's Assignment Desk in New York, helping with coverage of breaking national and international news. Until January 2013, he was a freelance journalist based in Cairo. He has reported from Egypt, Iraq and Jordan for various publications, including The International Herald Tribune, The Atlantic, Foreign Policy and The Daily Beast. He served as an intern at Al Jazeera English's Cairo bureau from early 2012 through the Egyptian presidential elections.
A 2011-2012 fellow at the Center for Arabic Study Abroad (CASA) in Cairo, Ben received a B.A. from Tufts University, where he majored in international relations and Arabic. At Tufts, he served as the editor-in-chief of The Tufts Daily, Tufts' independent student newspaper. He was also a lead editor of Insights, the journal of the New Initiative for Middle East Peace at Tufts’ Institute for Global Leadership.
